Brooklyn, NY (June 7, 2022) – The Cyclones dropped the opener of their seven-game series with the Aberdeen IronBirds by the score of 3-1 on Tuesday evening. In a game that lasted just two hours and 16 minutes, Brooklyn batters struck out 15 times and collected just six hits.

Luis Moreno (0-1) made his Cyclones debut on Tuesday evening and was solid over his 5.0 innings on the mound. The righthander allowed two runs, earned, on five hits with two walks and six strikeouts but was the hard-luck loser.

Aberdeen’s offense came in the second inning when Donta’ Williams walked on four pitches and moved up a base on a single from Ramon Rodriguez. With Billy Cook batting, both runners advanced with a stolen base and Williams would later score the game’s first run on an RBI groundout from AJ Graffanino. Connor Norby then roped a two-out RBI single up the middle to extend Aberdeen’s lead to 2-0.

Brooklyn tried to mount a comeback in the fifth after Shervyen Newton laced a triple into right field and came around to score on a Jaylen Palmer RBI single. Palmer then stole second to move into scoring position with nobody out, but Warren Saunders hit a grounder to shortstop that Palmer tried to advance on and was thrown out at third and the Brooklyn bats went silently the rest of the frame.

The Cyclones got a runner into scoring position in the sixth and again in the eighth, but Brooklyn went 0-for-3 with those two scoring chances and were unable to mount any more offense on the evening.

In the top of the ninth, Ramon Rodriguez hit a solo shot to extend Aberdeen’s lead to 3-1. That was the lone run that Brooklyn reliever Garrison Bryant allowed over his 4.0 innings of work.

The Cyclones and IronBirds will square off in a doubleheader on Wednesday evening starting at 5:00 PM Gates will open at 4:30 PM. Those with tickets for Wednesday’s game will have access to both games.
