Brooklyn, NY (June 24, 2022) – The Cyclones started the second half the same they ended the first…with a win. Brooklyn defeated the Jersey Shore BlueClaws by the score of 2-1 on Friday night on Coney Island. Nick Zwack tossed 5.0 shutout frames, scattering four hits and a walk while striking out six to collect the win.

Zwack and BlueClaws starter Mick Abel, the Phillies first-round selection in 2020, traded zeroes through the first two frames but in the bottom of the third Jose Mena opened the scoring with a solo blast over the left-field wall – his third home run of the season – to give Brooklyn a 1-0 lead.

The lead would grow in the fourth when Jaylen Palmer tacked on an RBI single to extend the Brooklyn advantage to 2-0.

That would be all the offense for the ‘Clones, but it was just enough as Jersey Shore’s lone run came on a solo homer off the bat of Casey Martin in the top of the seventh.

Nate Jones, making his first appearance in Brooklyn since the 2019 NYPL Championship Finale, tossed 2.2 frames, allowing just the home run to Martin before turning the ball over to Sammy Tavarez who struck out a pair over his 1.1 innings to collect his fifth save of the season.

The Cyclones will look to make it three in a row over the Blue Claws on Saturday evening when they send Garrison Bryant (2-1, 3.92) to the mound. It will be Pete Alonso Bobblehead Day and the first 2,000 fans in attendance will receive a bobblehead courtesy of Coca-Cola.
