WILMINGTON, Del. (August 6, 2026) — LF Aidan Smith homered for the second consecutive game, while six Brooklyn pitchers combined to twirl a one-hitter, as the Cyclones edged the Wilmington Blue Rocks, 3-2, on Thursday night at Daniel S. Frawley Stadium.
The victory was Brooklyn's (20-18, 45-58) fourth straight, keeping them 2.5 games behind first-place Greensboro in the South Atlantic League North Division second-half standings.
For the second-straight night, the Cyclones erupted in the first inning.
SS Sammy Stafura opened the game with a first-pitch single to left before Smith followed with a knock to center. RF Trey Snyder provided a third-straight hit to start the contest, slapping an RBI single to right to give the Cyclones a 1-0 lead. Two batters later, 3B Yonatan Henríquez lined an RBI single to left to extend the advantage to 2-0.

Wilmington (21-17) cut the deficit in half without the benefit of a base hit in the second.
A hit batter and consecutive walks to 1B Jacob Walsh, RF Jack Moroknek, and CF Jorgelys Mota loaded the bases with nobody out before another hit-by-pitch of LF Elijah Nunez forced home a run.
However, that would be all the Blue Rocks scored in the frame. RHP Joel Díaz limited the damage by striking out the next batter before inducing an inning-ending double play, preserving Brooklyn's 2-1 lead.
The Cyclones regained their two-run cushion in the third.
On the third pitch of the inning, Smith launched a solo home run over the tall fence down the right-field line. The 22-year-old's second homer since joining Brooklyn—and 12th overall this season—made it a 3-1 contest.

It remained a two-run game until the seventh.
SS Eli Willits worked a one-out walk and stole second before advancing to third and scoring when an errant pickoff throw sailed into center field, trimming Brooklyn's lead to 3-2.
After another walk and a wild pitch moved the tying run into scoring position, RHP Hunter Hodges induced a pair of ground outs to escape the inning with the Cyclones still in front.
RHP Joe Scarborough followed with a dominant eighth inning, striking out three in a scoreless frame, before handing the ball to RHP Juan Arnaud for the ninth.
The 23-year-old retired the first two batters on fly outs to left but then issued back-to-back walks. Two stolen bases and a throwing error put the tying and go-ahead runs in scoring position before the right-hander struck out the final batter swinging to secure Brooklyn's 3-2 victory.
Díaz collected a no-decision in his first start since returning from Single-A St. Lucie. The 22-year-old allowed one run without permitting a hit in 3.0 innings, walking three and striking out three.
RHP Elwis Mijares (1-0) earned the win in his High-A debut, tossing 2.0 scoreless innings while allowing Wilmington's lone hit—a fifth-inning single by 3B Ronny Cruz. He walked two and struck out two.
RHP Calvin Ziegler also turned in a strong outing, striking out three over a scoreless inning despite hitting a batter to earn a hold.
Wilmington starter RHP Tucker Biven (3-2) took the loss after allowing two runs on four hits over 2.0 innings. The New Albany, Ind. native matched a career high with four strikeouts in his second-career start.
Brooklyn will try to secure a series victory on Friday night. RHP Luke Gabrysh (3-8, 5.14) is expected to make the start and New York Mets organizational debut for the Cyclones. The Blue Rocks are projected to counter with RHP Miguel Sime Jr. (2-1, 2.56), the Washington Nationals’ No. 10 prospect per MLB Pipeline. First pitch from Daniel S.
