Robbins & Jimenez Smack Homers, but Brooklyn Drops Suspended and Regularly-Scheduled Games on Tuesday

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The final week of the regular season did not start the way the Cyclones were hoping for on Tuesday night, as the Keys captured both the completion of July 5th’s suspended game, followed by the regularly scheduled contest.

The Keys captured the first portion of Tuesday’s “twinbill”, 3-2, in 10 innings after the game resumed in the 8th with the contest tied at 2-2. In the nightcap, Frederick captured the contest, 6-4. The game was only seven innings in length as per MiLB rules, with the first pitch not coming until 9:01 following a lengthy rain delay.

The resumption on July 5th’s game came in the bottom of the 8th, with a runner on 3rd, two outs and a 2-0 count on the batter. RHP Hunter Hodges picked things up on the mound for Brooklyn. After a walk started his night, 2B Jaiden Lo Re grounded out to send the game to the 9th tied.

Neither squad could scratch anything across, sending the game to extras. In the 10th, Brooklyn would put men on the corners with just one out after a groundout and a walk started the frame. However, Brooklyn would not score in the frame, as 2B Antonio Jimenez was caught stealing, before 1B Ronald Hernandez flied out to end the frame.

Frederick managed to accomplish the rare feat of a walk-off win in a visiting ballpark in the bottom of the 10th. After a sac bunt from SS D.J. Layton put the winning run on 3rd, C Yasmil Bucce came through with an RBI single to left center field.

In the regularly scheduled contest, CF Aiden Robbins launched his first High-A home run in his first full High-A contest. The 2026 Mets 3rd round pick out of Texas finished 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI and a couple of runs scored.

Brooklyn’s pitching struggled to keep Keys hitters off the bases. In the seven inning contest, Cyclones arms walked nine Frederick batters. Frederick had only three hits in the ballgame.

Meanwhile, RHP Jake Dykhoff was superb for Frederick in relief. The 27-year-old covered the final 4.2 innings of work for Frederick, allowing just two runs on four hits, while striking out five and walking none en route to the win.

Despite the defeat, Brooklyn hopped out in front right from the jump. In his Maimonides Park debut, SS Elian Peña launched a triple, before scoring on an RBI base knock from Robbins. Two batters later, Robbins would score on a sac fly from 3B Yonatan Henríquez.

Frederick responded immediately. In the top of the 2nd, the Keys got to LHP Nicolas Carreño. After walking the first three batters of the inning, the southpaw picked up a strikeout. RF Braylon Whitaker hit into an RBI fielder’s choice, cutting Brooklyn’s lead to 2-1. The very next batter, DH D.J. Layton, laced a two-run double to give the Keys a 3-2 lead. Carreño was then pulled after just 1.2 frames.

The Keys would tack on runs in both the 4th and 5th on a wild pitch from the minor-league rehabbing RHP Ryan Lambert and an RBI single from LF Braylin Tavera.

Brooklyn responded with a run in the 6th when Robbins launched a 109 MPH solo shot to left to cut the deficit to 5-3. Still, Frederick got the run back in the 7th, when SS Leandro Arias grounded into a double play with the bases loaded and nobody out, scoring a run. Despite a solo shot from 2B Antonio Jimenez to trim the deficit to two, Brooklyn would not mount a comeback.

Brooklyn and Frederick return to action at 6:40 on Wednesday night. RHP Emilio Obispo (0-0, 4.09 ERA) projects to take the ball for Brooklyn. He’ll be opposed by RHP Evan Yates (1-1, 3.72 ERA).
