Bisons fall to RailRiders in series finale

MOOSIC, PA — After a rain-shortened affair last night that saw the game called after 5.5 innings, the Buffalo Bisons dropped the series finale to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 5-1 on Sunday afternoon from PNC Field. It is the first series of the year where the Herd have been swept.

Joe Biagini made his fourth start of the season and continued his success in that role, throwing 1.2 scoreless innings to lower his ‘opener’ ERA to 1.08. Jake Elliott followed but gave up three runs (two earned) off four hits while recording just one out to make it 3-0 RailRiders.

Rob Brantly came around to score on a throwing error in the second, while Tim Locastro doubled home Estevan Florial in the third before coming home to score himself on a sac fly.

Nick Allgeyer had the longest and most successful outing of the day, throwing 2.2 innings of hitless, scoreless ball while striking out three. Brandon Eisert and Gabriel Ponce would each be charged with a run on a two-run single by Florial in the sixth which put Scranton up by four.

The Bisons scored their lone run in the fourth when Nathan Lukes singled before eventually scoring on a sac fly by Cullen Large, while Otto López had another multi-hit game to extend his hitting streak to nine; López is hitting .400 over that span with six doubles.

Jhony Brito made his second start of the series for the RailRiders and had another strong outing, allowing just one run off five hits over six innings to pick up the quality start and the win.

The Bisons will return home to Sahlen Field tomorrow to welcome in the Syracuse Mets on the Fourth of July to open up a seven-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. EST.
