With the Triple-A 'Final Stretch' playoff beginning Wednesday, the Bisons are set to add the Blue Jays Top Prospect to their already potent lineup.
Catcher Gabriel Moreno will be promoted to the Herd from Double-A New Hampshire in time for the start of this week's final homestand (Tickets are just $10). Moreno is currently ranked as the top prospect in the Toronto Blue Jays organization, according to MLB Pipeline and Baseball America. The backstop has been on the 7-day injured list since June 30 due to a fractured right thumb suffered on June 25 against Bowie.
Prior to his injury, Moreno was batting .373 with eight home runs and 45RBI in 32 games with the Fisher Cats. He was sent to the Florida Complex League on September 7 to begin a Minor League injury rehab assignment that included two games with Bluefield (ROK).
Moreno is currently ranked as the 33rd best prospect by MLB Pipeline as part of their Top 100 midseason rankings. He began the year as the #7 prospect for the Blue Jays heading into the 2021 season. The 21-year-old was slashing .441/.561/1.092 prior to his injury in his first season with New Hampshire.
The 2021 season marked the fourth for Moreno after signing with Toronto as a free agent on August 6, 2016. He was named the Double-A Northeast Player of the Week from June 14-20.
The Bisons will close out the 2021 season with 10 games as part of the Triple-A ‘Final Stretch.’ Buffalo welcomes the Lehigh Valley IronPigs beginning Wednesday, September 22 at 6:05 p.m. and will travel to Syracuse to finish the season September 29 to October 3.
