Aces Head to Las Vegas for Silver State Diamond Challenge Against Aviators

After a six-game homestand against the Salt Lake Bees, Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, the Reno Aces will begin the first leg of their 12-game road trip with a six-game slate against in-state rival Las Vegas Aviators, Triple-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics. The Aces currently hold a 7-5 advantage against Las Vegas in the Silver State Diamond Challenge, presented by Nevada Donor Network.

SCOUTING LAS VEGAS

The Aviators recently faced the Albuquerque Isotopes, Triple-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, in a six-game road series and won two out of the six.

Shea Langeliers leads Las Vegas’ offense with 19 homers and 51 RBI. Last week, the backstop hit .384 (10-for-26) with two homers and six RBI in Albuquerque.

Las Vegas’ starting rotation is headline by Collin Wiles. The right-hander from Overland Park, Kansas, holds an 8-6 record with a 5.11 ERA in 19 starts. In his most recent start against the Isotopes on July 30, Wiles earned his eighth win with 5.2 innings of five-run ball on eight hits, one walk and three strikeouts.

Aside from Langeliers (1), five top-30 prospects in the Oakland Athletics organization are on Las Vegas’ roster, including Zach Logue (18), Adrian Martinez (20), Cody Thomas (24), Garrett Acton (27) and Max Schuemann (30).

ACES HIGH

In their last series against the Aviators, Reno took four out of the six games. Stone Garrett bashed a home run and drove in seven runs in six games against Las Vegas. On the mound, Ryne Nelson earned a win with 5.2 innings of work, allowed three earned runs on five hits and struck out four batters. Taylor Widener was lights out in relief with four shutout innings, allowed three hits and struck out eight batters in two appearances.

Against Salt Lake last week, Cooper Hummel swung a hot bat and hit .400 (8-for-20) with three extra-base hits, three RBI and four runs scored in five games.

Dominic Fletcher batted .550 (11-20) with six extra-base hits, an RBI and a run scored in five games against the Bees.

Arizona’s top prospect, Corbin Carroll, started all six games for the Aces and hit .272 (6-for-22) with a homer, four RBI and two runs scored.

Drey Jameson earned his third win as an Ace with seven innings of one-run ball on four hits, walked three and struck out four batters.

Out of the bullpen, Kevin Ginkel continued to thrive in the late innings with 2.2 shutout innings of relief and allowed no hits, one walk and struck out three batters. The Arizona product also earned his ninth save of the season Saturday night.
