RENO, Nev. – The Reno Aces (18-14) return to the Evergreen State for a seven-game rematch with the Tacoma Rainiers (16-16) this week at Cheney Stadium.
In a rainy, dreary five-game series back in early April, the Rainiers flexed their offensive muscles in an imposing series win over the Aces. Tacoma outscored Reno 24-5 through the first two games, leaning on four three-run homers, including two from Brian O’Keefe.
Mike Ford leads the Rainiers charge offensively with a .343 average and a 1.167 OPS. Ford went 6-for-15 with a double, a homer, and seven RBIs in the first meeting with Reno.
Tacoma’s pitching staff is less rosy, ranking 20th in team ERA (5.72) and in the bottom six in batting average against (.281). Tommy Milone is the staff’s leader in ERA (2.57) and is coming off a seven-inning scoreless gem against Salt Lake.
The Rainiers dropped eight of ten in the heart of a 12-game road trip to Las Vegas and Salt Lake City. The Rainiers gave up an average of nine per game runs in the eight losses and have dropped two series in a row.
Reno played a tough series split with the Round Rock Express (21-11) last week at Greater Nevada Field. Dominic Canzone blasted two homers in Saturday’s 9-5 loss and paces the team with nine long balls. Phillip Evans is hitting a remarkable .460 with a 1.215 OPS.
