Crisantes Homer Highlights Reno Offense in Game Two Defeat

RENO, Nev. – Doing their best to answer the bell each time, the Reno Aces battled all the way through and had a chance to knot their contest in the late stages, but the Sacramento River Cats held firm in the end to give Reno a 6-4 defeat on Wednesday.

The Aces (23-29/55-72) were trying to battle their way out of a four-run deficit just three innings into the game, as the River Cats (31-22/73-52) plated a pair in both the second and third.

Demetrio Crisantes broke through in a big way for Reno in the fourth as he made Sacramento pay for a one-out walk to Manuel Pena by smashing the second homer of his Triple-A career, his first at Greater Nevada Field.

Both sides traded a run, one from Sacramento in the fifth on a Will Brennan double, while the Aces matched it in the home half of the sixth on a two-out double into center field that scored Tyler Locklear.

That trend continued in the eighth as again both sides managed to produce a run, Sacramento’s on a double from Adrián Sugastey while LuJames Groover’s single turned into a run when a throwing error forced home the run.

Reno had their chances in the game, including putting the tying run on base with Troy at the plate, but the Aces failed to capitalize and ended the game 2-for-14 with runners in scoring position.

Though he allowed the first five runs, Reno starter Ashton Izzi (0-3) made it through six innings while striking out and walking one in addition to his nine hits allowed. However, he was charged his third loss of the season.

Reno was up against a tough outing from Sacramento’s starter, Cesar Perdomo (7-2), who made it through seven innings with three runs allowed on eight hits while punching out five with three walks en route to the win.

A trio of Aces combined for six of the 10 Reno hits in the contest, as Tommy Troy, Crisantes and Anderdson Rojas each logged a pair of knocks. Crisantes drove two in and scored twice thanks to his double and homer, while the duo of Kristian Robinson and Gavin Logan both logged a two-bagger.

Sacramento has taken each of the first two games to begin this series, and the Aces will look to snag their first win of the set when these two teams meet for game three of the series at 6:35 p.m. PT on Thursday.
