Troy Logs Pair of Knocks for Aces While Cats Swipe Game Three

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The bats of the Reno Aces struggled to find hits in game three of their series with the Sacramento River Cats, logging their first knock of the game in the sixth but ultimately dropping a 3-0 final on Wednesday.

For five innings the Aces (32-39/64-82) were held without a hit, but they finally broke the streak when Tommy Troy was able to leg out an infield single on a broken bat ball to shortstop. Aramis Garcia quickly joined him aboard with a single of his own into right field, but both runners were left stranded.

Reno then logged hits in the two subsequent innings, including a two-bagger in their half of the seventh following a fielding error in left field. However, both runners were left stranded while Troy’s leadoff single in the eighth was quickly erased on a double play.

The River Cats (37-35/79-65) did all their scoring in the game with one swing of the bat from Bo Davidson in the third, plating all three runs when he launched his 10th Triple-A homer of the season.

That homer was the only blemish on the night for Reno starter Mitch Bratt (1-3), who struck out six with only one walk but yielded the three runs on six hits in five full innings.

The five innings that Reno were held without a hit were their most in a game since they were nearly no-hit for the first time at Greater Nevada Field last year on July 26, 2025 against Oklahoma City in a game started by Blake Snell until a ninth inning leadoff triple by Albert Almora Jr.

Additionally, this was the seventh shutout loss of the season for Reno, their first since they were held without a run in a 1-0 defeat in 10 innings against the Round Rock Express on Aug. 2. It also drops the Aces’ record in such games to 6-7.

Following Bratt, there was a parade of Aces relievers the succeeded him and kept the River Cats off the scoreboard. The quartet of Blake Walston, Spencer Giesting, and Isaiah Campbell all tossed a run-free frame with only Walston yielding a single hit.

Troy reached three total times in the game, going 2-for-3 while drawing a walk. The double came from the bat of Santiago Espinal, his only knock of the game, while Garcia chipped in a single in three trips.

Tonight’s defeat saw the River Cats take the edge in the series, but Reno will look to equalize the set once more when the two teams meet for game four of this series on Friday at 6:45 p.m. PT.
