The Beer Batter has been a staple promotion at Excite Ballpark since the 1980’s. The premise is simple: before the game, one batter on the opposing team is picked as the designated “Beer Batter.” If he strikes out in any at-bat before the seventh inning, beer around the stadium is 50% for the next 15 minutes. The Beer Batter can strike out multiple times per game, and the promotion repeats itself. The Beer Batter walks up to the song “Beer Barrel Polka”, first recorded in 1927. Fans in the ballpark have been known to shout a call-and-response: “Who’s On Deck … It’s The Beer Batter!”
