San Jose Giants Mourn Passing of Manuel Pereira

SAN JOSE, CA- The San Jose Giants mourn the passing of Manuel "Manny" Pereira. He died Thursday, October 17 at the age of 93, with his loving family by his side. He was the father to Robert Pereira and San Jose Giants Director of Player Personnel Linda Pereira, as well as being a beloved grandfather and great grandfather. Manuel Pereira was a decorated war hero, receiving Bronze & Silver Stars and a Purple Heart. He was a restaurateur for 60 years owning Manny's Hyland Inn, El Palomer (Santa Cruz) and Manny's Cellar. Manny was also a familiar face at Municipal Stadium, running the Heineken stand at San Jose Giants games for many years.

The Rosary will be held at Willow Glen Mortuary (1039 Lincoln Ave., San Jose, CA 95125) at 7:30 PM on Wednesday, October 23 with visitation from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM. The Funeral mass will be held at Five Wounds Portuguese Church (1375 East Santa Clara Street, San Jose, CA 95116) on Thursday, October 24 at 10:00 AM. Members of the San Jose community are invited to take part in the ceremony and pay their respects. Interment will take place at Calvary Catholic Cemetery (2650 Madden Ave., San Jose, CA 95116) following the ceremony.

The family is accepting flowers at the Willow Glen Mortuary and encouraging donations to Disabled American Veterans (c/o Al Tortolano, 2358 Benton Street, Santa Clara, CA 95050).
