Stanford Leaves PawSox Hitters in a Fog

May 16, 2006
As a thick fog rolled into Dunn Tire Park, Jason Stanford rolled through the Pawtucket batting order.

The Bisons' southpaw allowed just two hits over six magnificent innings in a 6-2 Buffalo victory over the Pawtucket Red Sox, Tuesday night from a foggy Dunn Tire Park. Stanford stuck out five, and didn't allow a batter to reach second base.

Bisons' designated hitter Jose Flores, meanwhile, knocked in plenty of runners from scoring position. His two-out, two run single in the 2nd inning gave the Bisons an early lead. His three-run homer with two outs in the 8th inning sealed the victory for Stanford.

But Stanford was the story Tuesday night. As the thick air rolled in from right field, Stanford suffocated the PawSox attack. The only two hits he allowed were a 2nd-inning single from Trent Durrington and a 6th-inning hit from Jeff Bailey. Stanford also walked and hit a batter, but none of the four batters reached beyond first base.

With the win, Stanford is now 2-3 on the season. The six shutout innings drops his season-ERA to 3.23.

Stanford received pitching support from Andrew Brown, Vic Darensbourg and Ben Howard. Howard got the final two outs of the game for his International League leading ninth save.

Game two of the four-game series will be Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. Don't miss Countdown to Bisons Baseball on WECK AM 1230 and WSPQ AM 1330, starting at 6:45 p.m.

His two-out single in the 7th inning scored Einar Diaz...Andy Marte finished the game 2-4 with a run scored.
