White, Hart return as Blue Jays announce Herd coaching staff

Today the Toronto Blue Jays announced the Buffalo Bisons coaching staff that will serve under manager KEN HUCKABY for the 2020 season. Today the Toronto Blue Jays announced the Buffalo Bisons coaching staff that will serve under manager KEN HUCKABY for the 2020 season. Hitting coach COREY HART and position coach DEVON WHITE return to Buffalo for another season, while JEFF WARE has been named the new pitching coach of the Herd.
Additionally, BOB TARPEY will serve as athletic trainer again in 2020, while JAKE MCGUIGGAN and DAVID HOWELL will serve as a development coaches, and AARON SPANO takes over as the strength and conditioning coordinator.
Hart returns for his third season as the Herd's hitting coach, helping the team improve in several offensive categories each of his first two seasons. The Bisons improved their team batting average (.261), home runs (156), and RBI (655), among other categories from 2018 to 2019. Additionally, he worked with several of the top Blue Jays prospects who have made an impact in Toronto, including Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
He is entering his fifth season in the Blue Jays system, beginning his tenure with the Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays. Hart began his coaching career with the Milwaukee Brewers organization from 2006-2009, before joining the Miami Marlins from 2010-2015. He served as the hitting coach for the Single-A Jupiter Hammerheads from 2012-2015 for the Marlins organization.
White is back for his third season as the team's position coach after serving as hitting coach in 2017. The seven-time gold glover primarily works with the Herd's outfielders and on base running. Last season the Herd finished third in the International League in stolen bases with 120, while Anthony Alford ranked fourth individually with 22.
The three-time All-Star becomes just the second modern era coach to coach four consecutive years with the Herd, joining Jackie Brown (1988-1991). White is also a three-time World Series champion, both in 1992 and 1993 with the Blue Jays, along with 1997 as a member of the Florida Marlins.
Ware joins the Herd's coaching staff after serving as the pitching coordinator for the Blue Jays organization each of the last three years. He has previously served as a pitching coach in the Jays organization, first in 2014 for the Vancouver Canadians of the Northwest League, his first season back with the organization that drafted him in the 1st round, 35th overall, in the 1991 draft.
Ware served as the pitching coach along with Huckaby in 2015 for the Single-A Lansing Lugnuts. His coaching career began in 2007 with the New York Yankees organization. He spent seven seasons as a pitching coach in the Yankees chain, including his final three years with Single-A Tampa from 2011-2013.
McGuiggan and Howell join the Herd's coaching staff for 2020 as development coaches. McGuiggan served as an analyst coach with the Dunedin Blue Jays (A-Adv) in 2019. This season marks his second as a coach in the Toronto organization after first working as a video analyst with Bluefield (ROK), while Howell is in his first year in the Blue Jays system.
Spano will serve as the Bisons strength and conditioning coach after holding the same role with Dunedin in 2019. He in entering his fourth season in the Jays organization and joins Tarpey, who enters his third season as Buffalo's athletic trainer. The 2020 season marks his 14th overall in the Blue Jays system.
Tarpey spent eight years with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, including being named Minor League Baseball's 2014 Athletic Trainer of the Year, before being promoted to the Herd.
