SALISBURY, MD – On August 9, 2025, the Delmarva Shorebirds once again teamed up with Preston Automotive Group for the annual Flock for a Cure Night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. The evening’s mission was simple yet powerful: to raise awareness and support for individuals and families affected by cancer.
Shorebirds players took the field wearing custom jerseys that were auctioned off and autographed at the end of the night, with all proceeds going toward local organizations making a difference across Delmarva.
Through the jersey auction, the Shorebirds and Preston Automotive Group raised $3,000 for three local charities and also donated $700 worth of toys for donation to Brooke’s Toy Closet.
“Our community has always been at the heart of everything we do,” said Shorebirds General Manager Chris Bitters. “The impact of events like Flock for a Cure goes far beyond the ballpark, and we’re proud to partner with Preston Automotive Group to continue strengthening our community through initiatives that truly make a difference.”
“Flock for a Cure is especially meaningful to all of us,” added David Wilson Jr., President of Preston Automotive Group. “Cancer touches so many lives, and it’s an honor to join forces with the Shorebirds to give back to the organizations that provide comfort, hope, and support to our neighbors in need.”
The Shorebirds have proudly partnered with Brooke’s Toy Closet for several years, helping bring joy to hospitalized children across the Eastern Shore. The program provides new toys to children treated in the Emergency Department and Pediatric Units at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional, TidalHealth Nanticoke and TidalHealth Atlantic.
“Brooke’s vision was to bring a little happiness to children facing difficult moments,” said Jessica Hales, President of the TidalHealth Foundation. “Since 2014, we’ve been able to fulfill that mission for thousands of children each year, thanks to the continued generosity of community partners like the Shorebirds.”
This year, the Shorebirds and Preston Automotive Group donated an additional $1,000 to Brooke’s Toy Closet to continue supporting Brooke’s legacy and ensure even more children receive a comforting gift during their hospital stay.
Proceeds from the jersey auction also supported two other local charities, the Brooke Mulford Memorial Fund at the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore and Relay for Life of Wicomico County.
“On behalf of the American Cancer Society and Relay for Life of Wicomico, we are so grateful for the Shorebirds’ and Preston Automotive Group’s continued support,” said Ashley Clevenger, Chair of Relay for Life of Wicomico. “Every dollar raised brings us closer to a world without cancer, and together, we’re making a real difference both locally and globally.”
In total, Flock for a Cure 2025 raised $3,000 for the Brooke Mulford Memorial Fund, Relay for Life of Wicomico County, and Brooke’s Toy Closet, along with an additional $700 in toy donations for local children. The Shorebirds extend heartfelt thanks to all the fans who participated by donating toys and/or bidding on jerseys for making this event another tremendous success.
