ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Fans of a pitching duel were in for a treat on Wednesday as the Reno Aces and Albuquerque Isotopes played to the first 1-0 decision in over a decade at Isotopes Park, with Reno coming out on top for their second straight victory.

The Aces (3-2) threatened to score in the game’s opening frame, putting leadoff batter Ryan Waldschmidt aboard with a walk before Tommy Troy singled with a bunt. Despite a pair on and no outs, Isotopes (1-4) starter Sean Sullivan (0-1) settled in and sandwiched a strikeout between a pair of fly outs.

That stretch started a run on 10 in a row retired by Sullivan, eight of which were strikeouts. Of those strikeouts, seven came consecutively from the start of the second until the first out in the fourth.

Meanwhile, Reno starter Mitch Bratt, who was making his Triple-A debut, was ready to match Sullivan step-for-step. Bratt danced around two-out singles in the bottom of the first with a fly out, and then faced the minimum through the rest of his outing until his exit after the fourth thanks to a double play that erased a leadoff walk in the third frame.

A wind-aided triple from Kristian Robinson started the fifth, as right fielder Sterlin Thompson had the ball sail well beyond his head as Robinson sped around the bases into third. Jacob Amaya stepped to the plate and got the job done, driving in Robinson with a sacrifice fly out to Thompson in right.

It was back to pitching after the game’s only run, as the Reno bullpen combined to allow zero runs for the second straight game. It is the first time they have accomplished the feat since Sept. 13 and Sept. 14, 2025, something they did seven times last season.

First up was Isaiah Campbell, who allowed a walk and hit but faced only four batters thanks to a caught stealing by catcher Aramis Garcia, his third of the young season.

Following was Gerardo Carrillo (1-0), who yielded one hit but struck out three over two innings of work. Yilber Díaz (H, 1) succeeded him with a clean inning and two strikeouts, while Drey Jameson (S, 1) converted the first Aces save of the season with a clean ninth and one strikeout.

That secured the first 1-0 decision in Isotopes Park since the Aces also clinched a 1-0 win over Albuquerque back on May 26, 2014. The only other time that had happened in Isotopes Park history was back in 2009.

Additionally, that same 1-0 win over the Isotopes in 2014 was the last 1-0 victory in nine innings for Reno. The Aces have had only one other 1-0 decision in their favor since, though it ended in seven innings on the road in Salt Lake against the Bees on Aug. 4, 2016.

Reno managed only six hits in the game, two of which came from Tommy Troy in his 2-for-4 effort. Luken Baker has a hit in all five contests after a 1-for-4 performance with a double, and LuJames Groover was also 1-for-4.

Waldschmidt, Arizona’s top prospect, logged one hit in two official trips but also walked twice, giving him six total in the young season. That ties him for the franchise record walks through the team’s first five games of a season along with Alex Romero, who accomplished the feat in the team’s inaugural season of 2009.

Game three of this series gets underway on Thursday from Isotopes Park at 11:05 a.m. PT.
