RENO, Nev. – Following a two-week road trip through Las Vegas and Tacoma, the Reno Aces (13-26, 50-64) return to Greater Nevada Field to host the El Paso Chihuahuas (23-15, 61-52), the Triple-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres, in a six-game series this week.

El Paso has enjoyed a strong campaign, particularly in the second half, where they’ve gone 23-15, good for third in the Pacific Coast League behind the Tacoma Rainiers and Sacramento River Cats. Reno sits at the opposite end of the standings, in last place, 14 games out of first.

The clubs last met in mid-June in El Paso, where Reno took four of six. The BLC-Nine’s offense erupted that week, slashing .321/.407/.581 with 24 doubles, two triples, 11 home runs, and 53 RBI. Tristin English had one of his best series of the year, collecting five doubles, three homers, 11 RBI, and 25 total bases.

Notable players on El Paso’s roster include infielder Mason McCoy and left-hander J.P. Sears.

McCoy, a former sixth-round pick by the Baltimore Orioles in the 2017 MLB Draft, was a major problem for Reno in their June series, going 11-for-27 (.407) with two doubles, three homers, and nine RBI. That performance was part of his best month of the season, hitting .322/.361/.622 with seven doubles, one triple, six homers, and 21 RBI in June. He enters the series riding a 12-game hitting streak, going 15-for-42 (.357) with three doubles, two homers, four RBI, and seven walks. McCoy has also excelled on the road, batting .303 (36-for-119) with nine doubles and 17 RBI.

Sears, recently acquired in the trade that sent Mason Miller to San Diego and Leo De Vries to the Athletics, will make his Chihuahuas debut in Tuesday’s opener. The left-hander has split 2025 between the Athletics and Padres, posting a 5.12 ERA with 101 strikeouts and 30 walks over 116.0 innings. He has five quality starts this year, including a six-inning shutout of the Giants on July 4. In his lone start for San Diego before being optioned, he allowed five runs to the Diamondbacks on August 4.

Andy Weber comes into the series hitting .342 (13-for-38) with two doubles, one triple, and four RBI in nine August games. He was a force against El Paso in June, going 6-for-13 (.462) with five doubles, one triple, and two walks.

The six-game series begins Tuesday, August 12, at 6:35 p.m.
