RENO, Nev – The BLC-Nine recently bolstered their pitching staff with the addition of two top prospects, RHP Dylan Ray and LHP Spencer Giesting. Both were promoted from Double-A Amarillo and joined the Aces ahead of their current series in Oklahoma City against the Comets.
Ray, ranked as Arizona’s #20 prospect by MLB Pipeline, earned his call-up after a dominant month of May that saw him be named the Diamondbacks’ MiLB Pitcher of the Month. The 24-year-old right-hander fired five consecutive quality starts, going 5-0 with a sparkling 2.03 ERA, 35 strikeouts, and just three walks over 31 innings.
He made his Triple-A debut in Tuesday’s series opener against the Comets. After a shaky first inning in which Oklahoma City plated three runs, Ray settled in and delivered four straight scoreless frames, finishing with one walk and one strikeout in five innings pitched.
A fourth-round selection by Arizona in the 2022 MLB Draft, Ray originally made his mark as a reliever at Alabama, earning Freshman All-SEC honors that same year. After undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2021, he returned to the mound as a redshirt freshman and led the Crimson Tide with eight saves in 18 appearances, posting a 4.60 ERA and 49 strikeouts. Transitioned to a starter in pro ball, Ray has quickly risen through the system and now stands on the doorstep of the big leagues.

Giesting, an eleventh-round pick out of UNC Charlotte in 2022, also earned a well-deserved promotion to Reno after a strong start to the 2025 campaign with the Sod Poodles. Through 10 outings in Double-A, the 23-year-old southpaw posted a 3.67 ERA with 59 strikeouts and 19 walks across 56 1/3 innings. He is projected to take the mound for his Triple-A debut in Saturday’s matchup against the Comets.
His professional career broke out in 2024 when he dominated at High-A Hillsboro, posting a 1.50 ERA with 67 strikeouts and just 13 walks over 60 innings — a performance that fast-tracked him to Double-A Amarillo by mid-June. He struggled early, but after adjusting to the new level, Giesting found his rhythm late in the 2024 season, closing his final five outings with a 2.60 ERA, 36 strikeouts, and just four walks in 27 2/3 innings.

Now in Triple-A, Giesting enters the final phase of his minor league development. If he continues his upward trajectory, the talented left-hander could position himself as a late-season call-up candidate for Arizona.
