RENO, Nev. – The Reno Aces (28-17) flexed their colossal offensive muscle in a dominant series win over the Sacramento River Cats (21-24) at Greater Nevada Field.

After dropping four of six to the River Cats a month ago at home, the Aces had a chance at redemption this week. They took full advantage by scoring 63 runs and completely overwhelmed a taxed Sacramento pitching staff. The series had a little bit of everything, including a hail shower that ended Sunday’s game after six complete innings.

The catching trio of P.J. Higgins, Ali Sánchez, and Dominic Miroglio continued to impress. Higgins went 12-for-16 with two doubles, two runs driven in, and three walks. Sánchez brought the power with two doubles and two homers, while Miroglio drove in four on three hits.

Tristin English continued to crush with seven hits, three homers, and nine runs driven. The Georgia Tech product is hitting .347 with a 1.099 OPS in 14 games since his promotion to Triple-A.

It was another great series for the lethal duo of Phillip Evans and Buddy Kennedy. Triple-A’s top two leaders in average and on-base percentage combined to go 15-for-37 (.405) with six doubles, a triple, and 10 walks.

Jake McCarthy tallied nine hits, walked four times, and homered in the series. Alek Thomas re-joined the Aces and made an immediate impact, adding elite athleticism to the lineup with seven hits and four RBI. Diego Castillo reached 11 times and went 2-for-2 in steals.

Drey Jameson was in complete control with seven strikeouts over six innings of two-run ball in Wednesday’s win. Bryce Jarvis matched Jameson’s quality start in Thursday’s victory, allowing two earned runs with five strikeouts in six innings of rock-solid work.

Blake Walston worked around three walks and six hits in Saturday’s start. Walston allowed one earned run in five innings, lowering his ERA to a team-leading 2.60. The 21-year-old lefty owns a 1.63 ERA with 25 strikeouts over his last five starts.

The Aces have won seven of their last eight, 18 of their previous 24, and 23 of their last 31. Reno sits five games behind Oklahoma City in the PCL standings with 30 games to play in the first-half schedule.

A two-week road trip is on tap with the El Paso Chihuahuas, the San Diego Padres Triple-A affiliate, due up first. The six-game series begins Tuesday at 5:05 p.m. PT.
