Tomlin Promoted, Gets the Ball vs. Red Wings

The Buffalo Bisons today announced that RHP Josh Tomlin has been promoted from Single-A Kinston to start for the Herd Tuesday against the Rochester Red Wings (7:05 p.m.).

The Cleveland Indians today announced that they have recalled RHP Jensen Lewis from the Bisons roster. Yesterday, the Tribe promoted RHP Tom Mastny from Buffalo.

Tomlin, 23, was 5-1 with a 2.79ERA and 1 save in 17 games and three starts for the Kinston Indians of the Carolina League (38.2IP, 30H, 14R, 12ER, 7BB, 41K). He did not allow a run in nine consecutive relief outings, April 20 - May 6, prompting a promotion to the Kinston starting rotation. His last three appearances have been starts, going 0-0 with a 2.63ERA in 13.2 innings of work (8H, 4R, 4ER, 1BB, 13K).

Tomlin was the Indians 19th round selection in the June, 2006 Draft. In 2007, he ranked 3rd in the Indians farm system with a 3.36ERA. Tomlin was a South Atlantic League All-Star with Lake County (10-3, 3.30ERA) before being promoted to Kinston (1-1, 3.58) to close out the 2007 season.

Lewis posted a 4.50ERA in two games with the Herd after being optioned down on May 26 (4.0IP, 5H, 2R, 2ER, 2BB, 6K). Mastny was 1-0 with a 3.14ERA in 11 games over two stints with the Bisons this year (14.1IP, 14H, 6R, 5ER, 6BB, 17K).
