Ronald Guzman to play in Futures Game Sunday

Riders slugger one of two Rangers farmhands selected
July 9, 2016

FRISCO, TEXAS (July 9, 2016) - RoughRiders infielder Ronald Guzman has been selected to participate in the 2016 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game, held Sunday at 6:00 p.m. CT at San Diego's Petco Park. Today he was placed on the temporary inactive list, leaving the RoughRiders to play in Sunday's contest.

Guzman, 21, is thriving with the Riders in his first season at the Double-A level. Through 81 games, Guzman is second in the Texas League in batting average (.298). The lefty slugger has 11 home runs and 40 RBI on the campaign, including a three-run homer on Friday vs. Arkansas. The home run extended Guzman's season-long hit streak to 11 games, which is his fourth hitting streak of six or more games this season. He also had a 17-game on-base streak earlier this year.

The native of the Dominican Republic was named a Mid-Season All-Star in the Texas League this year, his first time earning an All-Star spot in his five years as a professional. Guzman signed with the Rangers as a Non-Drafted Free Agent on July 2, 2011.

Guzman will be one of two Rangers farmhands participating in Sunday's Futures Game. Class A-Advanced High Desert infielder Travis Demeritte, who is tied for the fifth-most home runs in Minor League Baseball (20), will play for US Team, playing against Guzman and the World Team. Last year, the Rangers organization sent outfielders Nomar Mazara and Nick Williams to the game.

Sunday's game will be broadcast live by MLB Network. For more information, and to find what channel MLB Network is on in your area, click here.

The Riders start a three-game series against the Northwest Arkansas Naturals tonight at 7:05 p.m. on Princess Night at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Fans can watch the game on MiLB.tv (subscription required) or listen to the action on the Frisco RoughRiders Radio Network, the TuneIn Radio App, and the MiLB First Pitch App. Dr Pepper Pregame Show coverage begins at 6:30 p.m.
