The Harrisburg Senators walked-off over the Hartford Yard Goats 3-2 in extra innings Tuesday night at FNB Field. With the Senators down to their final strike, Raudy Read hit a two-run double in the bottom of the 10th to send the Senators to the victory.
Hartford scored their only run against Tyler Mapes in the fourth on a run-scoring double by Brian Mundell.
Mapes took a no-decision after allowing one run on six hits in six innings.
The Senators tied the game in the bottom of the fifth. With runners at first and second, Osvaldo Abreu hit a groundball to shortstop that forced out the runner going to second, however second baseman Nelson Molina's throw to first, in an attempt to get the double play, went past first baseman Brian Mundell, which allowed Alec Keller to score the tying run.
The game remained remained tied until the tenth. Hartford scored in the top of the frame when Mylz Jones hit a sacrifice fly to plate their free-runner, Molina.
With Hartford ahead 2-1 in the bottom of the 10th, the Senators had their free-runner, Jaron Long, at third and Carter Kieboom at first with two outs. Hartford reliever Reid Humphrey had the next batter, Raudy Read, down in the count 0-2 when Read launched a two-RBI double into right-center field to score Long and Kieboom and send the Senators to a 3-2 walk-off win.
"If you put together at-bats, put guys on base, and create some traffic you never know what's going to happen and tonight was one of those nights," Senators manager Matt LeCroy said. "We grinded and found a way to get it done at the end."
"(Read) had a great night and to cap it off with a walk-off double, that's pretty good."
Roman Mendez picked up the win (6-4) after allowing an unearned run to score in top of the 10th, while Humphreys (0-1) took the loss.
Read led the Senators by knocking four of their nine hits.
"I'm really proud of this group, they play hard all the time, they pull for one another and grind out at-bats," LeCroy said. "We're playing for something here at the end of the season and hopefully we can get on a good roll."
The Harrisburg Senators and Hartford Yard Goats continue their three-game series Wednesday night. Senators starting pitcher Wil Crowe is slated to make his Double-A debut opposite Hartford starter Rico Garcia. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at FNB Field. The game can be heard on CBS Sports Harrisburg 96.5 & 95.3 FM and 1400 AM or at www.cbssportsharrisburg.com beginning at 6:15 p.m.
