RENO, Nev. – Baseball is back in the Biggest Little City as the Reno Aces kicked off their 2026 campaign hosting the Tacoma Rainiers, Triple-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, at Greater Nevada Field this past weekend. While the series was lost, some of the new Aces shined on opening weekend in their Aces’ debuts.
After a late Tacoma rally spoiled an Opening Day victory for the BLC-Nine, the Aces bounced back on Saturday with an 8-4 victory on the backs of Dylan Ray and A.J. Vukovich. Ray was dominant on the mound throwing five innings of one-run ball with three strikeouts earning his first win of the season. At the plate, Vukovich notched a three-hit performance, including the team’s first home run of the season. Jacob Amaya and Jack Hurley each recorded two RBI, their firsts in a Reno uniform, to seal the victory.
The Aces would overcome an early three-run deficit in the series finale but ultimately fell to Tacoma 9-4 in the rubber match to close out the weekend.
For the weekend, Luken Baker and Vukovich led the Reno offense. Baker led the team with a .417 average, .833 slugging percentage, and 1.366 OPS while Vukovich hit .400 with a 1.200 OPS. Both recorded their first long balls of the year and combined for seven extra base hits in the first three games.
Ray led the pitching staff notables through opening weekend with his five innings of one-run ball in game two. LHP Kohl Drake had a bit of a mixed bags in his first start but struck out six Rainiers in just four innings of work. LHP Spencer Giesting impressed in his first appearance out of the bullpen with three innings pitched, allowing just one run on three hits with a pair of strikeouts.
The Aces will hit the road for the first time this season as they head to Albuquerque for a six-game series against the Isotopes, Triple-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies. Game one of the series will be on Tuesday, March 31 at 5:35 p.m. PT (6:35 p.m. MT).
