Owen White takes home Texas League Pitcher of the Week honors

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (July 5, 2022) – Frisco RoughRiders pitcher Owen White was named Texas League Pitcher of the Week for the week of June 27-July 3.

In his second start with the RoughRiders after being promoted from High-A Hickory, White threw 5.1 scoreless, hitless innings on Friday, July 1st against Corpus Christi at Riders Field. Over the outing, White allowed just one base runner on a fourth-inning walk while striking out seven batters. He used just 68 pitches, throwing 46 for strikes, before exiting the game with an injury to his left ankle. He is still slated to make his next scheduled start for Frisco.

In two starts this year with the Riders, White is 2-0 with a 1.69 ERA.

The Rangers No. 8 prospect was selected out of the North Carolina high school ranks in the second round of the 2018 draft and pitched well in High-A Hickory before his promotion to Frisco. With the Crawdads, White went 6-2 with a 3.99 ERA while striking out 81 batters over 58.2 innings with 19 walks. In his last four starts before the promotion, he went 3-0 with a 2.52 ERA, striking out 34 over 25.0 innings.

White is the first pitcher for the RoughRiders to take home the honor this season, but infielder Trey Hair was named Texas League Player of the Week for the week of June 6-12 earlier this season.

The Riders continue their road trip in San Antonio on Tuesday, July 5th with first pitch at 7:05 p.m. from Nelson W. Wolff Municipal Stadium for game two of the series. LHP Cody Bradford (5-5, 6.44) takes the ball for the Riders against RHP Brandon Komar (0-2, 6.55). The action can be followed on RidersBaseball.com and the live broadcast begins at 6:45.
