Harrisburg Senators Announce 2022 Field Staff

HARRISBURG, PA. - The Washington Nationals have announced that Tripp Keister is returning as the 2022 manager of the Harrisburg Senators. It’ll be the second straight season for Tripp at the helm of the Senators. Joining Keister on the 2022 Senators staff is new pitching coach Justin Lord, new hitting coach Micah Franklin and developmental coach Oscar Salazar. Also returning are T.D. Swinford, trainer and RJ Guyer, strength and conditioning coach.

Keister enters his second season at the helm of the Senators after spending the previous six seasons guiding the Nats High-A team in Potomac. Prior to managing Potomac, he guided the Hagerstown Suns to the Atlantic League Championship Series in 2013. He joined the Nationals organization in 2012 managing the Gulf Coast League Nationals. Before joining the Nationals organization, he served as Head Baseball Coach and Associate Athletic Director at Wesley College (NCAA DIII) in Dover, DE. As a manager with Potomac, he led the P-Nats to the 2014 Carolina League Championship and was named the Carolina League Manager of the Year that same season.

Tripp was selected in the 33rd round of the 1992 draft by the New York Mets out of the University of Delaware. He played parts of four seasons in the Mets organization including with Binghamton in 1995. The Hockessin, Delaware native has three children, Madison-21, Kevin-19, and Kristin-16. He lives in Delaware during the offseason.

Lord has been with the Nationals organization since 2020. He was the Wilmington Blue Rocks pitching coach last season, his first season working in the Nationals organization. He was slated to serve as Washington's High-A pitching coach in 2020 after spending seven seasons as a coach in the Baltimore Orioles organization. As a player, Lord was signed by the Kansas City Royals as a non-drafted free agent out of Florida State in 2001 and pitched in three professional seasons. No stranger to Frawley Stadium, he played for the Rocks in 2003 and the Lynchburg Hillcats in 2004.

Franklin joins the Nationals after five seasons (2017-21) as a hitting coach in Arizona’s Minor League system. He spent the 2021 season with Low-A Visalia. Franklin transitioned into a coaching role after spending three seasons (2014-16) as a scout with Seattle and five (2009-13) as a scout with the Diamondbacks. Franklin appeared in 17 games with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1997.

Salazar is joining the Senators and Washington Nationals organization after spending last year in El Paso as the fielding coach. Prior to being the fielding coach for El Paso, he was the hitting coach for the Padres’ Tri-City affiliate in the Northwest League from 2017-2019. He played professionally for 19 seasons, including parts of four years in the Major Leagues with the Detroit Tigers, Baltimore Orioles, and the Padres. He played in Bowie with the Orioles organization in 2007.

Swinford begins his 12th season in the Nationals organization and fourth with the Senators. Following the 2015 season, he worked for the Mesa Solar Sox of the Arizona Fall League. Before joining the Nationals organization, he worked in Baltimore’s organization for seven seasons. T.D. graduated from McKendree (IL) College in 2003 with a degree in athletic training and physical education.

Guyer is in his ninth season in the Nationals organization and fifth with the Senators. Before joining the Senators, he was with Hagerstown and Auburn. Before joining the Nationals organization, he spent nearly two years as a special assistant to the director in the Arizona Fall League. He was also an associate scout with the Toronto Blue Jays from 2011 to 2014.

The Senators offices are open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily during the offseason. The 2022 home opener is Tuesday, April 12, against the Portland Sea Dogs.
