HARRISBURG, P.A. – A Minor League Baseball field, like the Harrisburg Senators’ FNB Field, requires tremendous care, a particular eye, and a team of dedicated professionals. On Tuesday, November 4, that expertise shifted from City Island to the Harrisburg Area Police Athletic Field (HAPAL) in Lower Paxton Township.

The Senators, in partnership with First National Bank (FNB) and J. Hubler Landscaping, gave a $10,000 facelift to HAPAL. It’s all about strengthening the community.

“We strive to be a pillar of the community in Harrisburg and beyond,” said Senators Team President Kevin Kulp. “With our partners at First National Bank and J. Hubler Landscaping, our annual Homefield Makeover Project ensures our kids have the fields they deserve to play baseball and softball and to grow.”

This is the fourth Homefield Makeover Project the Senators have completed. The work at HAPAL, led by J. Hubler, largely focused on grading and bettering the dirt areas of the field to improve safety and playability. Volunteers from the Senators and FNB staffs helped with beautification of fence lines and the surrounding area.

“Parents and coaches are the groundskeepers of youth fields,” said Kulp. “They don’t have the time to put the proper care into a field on top of everything else in their lives, so it’s a real privilege of ours to come out here and make this contribution for our youth leagues.”

HAPAL provides affordable, accessible youth baseball opportunities for kids in Harrisburg. This past season, six teams ranging from T-ball to Teener played at HAPAL. Of the more than 100 players, about 75% are Harrisburg city residents.

Additionally, Major League Baseball named the league the Nike RBI Affiliate for Harrisburg, expanding access to organized baseball for local youth.

Previous Homefield Makeover Projects have included Carroll Township Field for the Dillsburg Challenger League, New Cumberland Borough Park, and Susquehanna Township’s Stabler Field.
