RENO, Nev. – The longest homestand of the 2026 season for the Reno Aces gets its second half underway, as Reno ends this 12-game stretch at home with six games against its Silver State rival the Las Vegas Aviators, Triple-A affiliate of the Athletics.
It was an impressive series last time out for the Aces, as they took four of six from the Salt Lake Bees and put up impressive offensive totals while doing so. Both Anderdson Rojas (.500, tied for second) and LuJames Groover (.476, fourth) were among the top five batting averages in the PCL while Groover’s 13 RBI led the league and helped him be named the PCL Player of the Week.

This meeting between the Aces and the Aviators (7-6) will be the first of 2026, and Reno is riding a wave of success against their Silver State cohort. The Aces have won each of the last five season series dating back to the start of 2021, and in that time, Reno boasts a 74-47 (.612) record against Las Vegas.
Dating back to the start of 2021, the Aces have pitched the third-most innings (1,072.1) against the Aviators compared to any opponent, and their 1,039 strikeouts also ranks third. Meanwhile, their 5.56 ERA (663 er, 1072.1 ip) slots fourth of nine total opponents faced.
At the dish, Reno’s .305 (1312-for-4305) batting average against Las Vegas is their third best against any opponent, but their 184 home runs and 274 doubles are both their best marks against any opponent they have faced. The Aces have totaled 836 RB against the Aviators, also their best against any opponent since 2021, while Reno’s .898 OPS is just three points below their No. 1 mark of .901 against El Paso.
When looking at franchise history, the Aces hold an all-time record of 157-140 (.529) against Las Vegas, with the 157 victories ranking second most against any opponent (first: TAC, 161). Despite the wins total, Reno’s 5.77 ERA (1681 er, 2622.2 ip) is their worst against any opponent with a minimum of 100 games played. The Aces have had their strikeout stuff working, as their 2,267 punchouts sits third (second: TAC, 2,386).
While they may struggle a bit on the hill, the Aces have the bats going against the Aviators as their .303 (3212-for-10616) batting average is their best against any opponent (minimum 100 games played). In 297 total games the Aces have hit 693 doubles, slugged 389 homers, driven in 1,844 runs, and scored 1,967 runs (6.6/game), all of which are their best against any opponent.
Las Vegas comes in off a rain-shortened series with Sacramento, and because of that it ended with a sweep in the River Cats favor as the Aviators dropped all four games. It was a stark contrast from their nine games in which Las Vegas was 7-2, including four wins over Oklahoma City, and tallied one of the PCL’s best run differentials.
The last of those four losses were a pair of shutout defeats, as the Aviators were outscored 20-0 in the final two games and 33-10 over the four-game set. Las Vegas starters were 0-3 with a 10.80 ERA (18 er, 15.0 ip) in the four games, while the bullpen did its best with a 0-1 record and 5.49 ERA (12 er, 19.2 ip).
Meanwhile, Aviators hitters as a team combined to hit just .170 (23-for-135), scoring 10 runs with four doubles, one triple, and one homer. Each of those totals were last in the PCL during last week’s sets, as was their nine RBI and .511 OPS.
Featured on the Aviators are three of the Athletics’ top six prospects, and overall they boast seven of their top-30 prospects. Tops among them is No. 3 ranks left-handed pitcher Gage Jump, who has made two starts this season without factoring into a decision while posting a 1.50 ERA (1 er, 6.0 ip) and eight strikeouts to four walks.
The highest ranked prospect among the position players is No. 5 ranked outfielder Henry Bolte, but he finds himself off to a slow start hitting just .212 (11-for-52) in 13 games with 11 runs scored, two triples, two homers, and seven RBI. Meanwhile, No. 20 prospect Junior Perez is batting .188 (9-for-48) in 12 games with 10 runs scored, one double, one homer and nine RBI.
Leading the way for Las Vegas is backstop Brian Serven, who is hitting an eye-popping 464 (13-for-28) in eight games with 10 runs scored, five doubles, one triple, one homer, five RBI and a 1.380 OPS.
